First we had Fuck Like A Pirate Day — now, it looks like hosted blogging might get a chance to revive the free-thinking spirit that made blogging so powerful in the first place… until people started getting kicked off of WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal and other hosted blog sites for posting about the “wrong” things. Like sex, or politics or certain ideas or fantasies. In response to a friend being taken down by WP for linking to copyrighted material, Pirate Bay has launched a new blogging service that is completely uncensored: Baywords. The post also says they’re working on a YouTube competitor and an image hosting service. Snip:
The Pirate Bay is known for defending people’s right to freedom of speech on the Internet, and this is exactly what motivated them to start this new blogging service.
Brokep, one of the co-founders of the site, told TorrentFreak that the idea to start a blogging service came up when the weblog of one of his friends was taken down from WordPress recently, for linking to copyrighted material.
This, of course, goes against the “uncensored web” philosophy of The Pirate Bay team, and they didn’t hesitate to start their own blogging service, Baywords, using WordPress as their blogging engine.
On the frontpage of the newly launched service Brokep writes: “Many blogs are being shut down for uncomfortable thoughts and ideas. We will not do that. Our goal is to protect freedom of speech and your thoughts. As long as you don’t break any Swedish laws in your blog, we will defend it”. Link (thanks, Praemedia!).

I think this is great. I’ve never had any problems, but then again, my blog is primarily technology and politics rather than sex. One of the things I’m beginning to really like, though, are virtual private servers. You get a virtual server with your own permanent IP address and complete (root) access to the machine for $20/month with 200GB of transfer. I’ve been using one for a few years, and have been very happy with them. The only problem I have is that it makes you into a Unix systems administrator whether you like it or not…
TOS very, but mine is basically “if it isn’t illegal and doesn’t screw up out environment, have fun.”.
It isn’t just the freebie hosting sites. My old hosting service suspended my website without warning because using ‘naughty language’ was against their Terms of Service. I switched over to Laughing Squid after that; thankfully their TOS doesn’t have any bullshit clauses about what you’re allowed to say on your site.
Oh Miss blue it is, thats always a good thing, well depends one the person.
If you do happen to open a page with the BAY, give your lovely readers a link won’t cha.
I am still Miss Blue ;)
and I think that’s a great idea.
So Mrs. Blue are you going to start a page?
