Psst! Our revolutionary sponsor and dear friends Pink Label have relaunched and it’s like Netflix for indie porn filmmakers with over 500 movies! Go take a peek, it’s amazing!
There were a lot of stories that had to be debunked (or omitted from) today’s roundup…
- Most outlets reporting on this are failing to note that the respondents were culled from social media and were specifically chosen as ‘participants’ in revenge porn. As in, perpetrators. One extremely irresponsible and misleading article on Vice presents this as a representation of people in general. That’s not true. In addition — “… Only those that marked “strongly disagree” were counted as people opposed to revenge porn. Those who marked “disagree” or “no opinion” were counted as people who showed “at least some approval.” Zhana Vrangalova, professor of human sexuality at New York University told Gizmodo, “This is bad science, with possibly some odd personal agenda guiding these interpretations.”

- No one read the fine print: this is a pseudo-cockring, not a condom. “according to the folks over at British Condoms, the device will clear up any queries you have regarding thrust velocity and pace, how many calories you’ve burned, skin temperature and girth. …If that wasn’t enough information displayed on the companion app, there’s also a competitive element involved, with your stats being stacked against the rest of the world.”

- The story “man died crushed under his massive porn stash” is false. Though right now you can see it in NY Post, Complex, CBS, Mirror, Toronto Sun, Metro, and more. It was debunked by Gizmodo.
- “The U.S. Department of Defense is investigating hundreds of Marines who used social media to solicit and share hundreds — possibly thousands — of naked photographs of women service members and veterans. Since Jan. 30, more than two dozen women – many on active duty, including officers and enlisted service members – have been identified by their rank, full name and military duty station in photographs posted and linked to from a private Facebook page.”

- “In the first known brothel of its kind, a Barcelona establishment is offering erotic sessions with sex dolls only. Clients of the “agency” will have to pony up $127 an hour for a sex session with one of four big-breasted Lumi Dolls: blond Kati, Asian-featured Lili, dark-skinned Leiza and anime model Aki, who wears her blue hair in ponytails.”

- “Of lesbian participants, 86 percent reported usually or always orgasming during sexual activity. Gay and bisexual men clocked in at 89 and 88 percent, respectively, compared to 66 percent of bisexual women. This breakdown indicates that female genitals are not to blame for the orgasm gap. You could say that straight women are least likely to achieve orgasm during sex, but it’s just as true to say that if you have sex with a straight man, you’ve chosen the demographic least likely to make you come.”

- I love the red hard hats. “Dozens of sex workers and human rights campaigners gathered in Kiev on Friday demanding the legalisation of prostitution in Ukraine. Some 50 activists holding red umbrellas and wearing red plastic helmets staged the first-ever march through the capital with the goal of revoking a legal ban on sex work in the post-Soviet state.”

- “An ‘edutainment’ show on DD discusses sexuality and women’s rights, and has beat popular shows to become the most watched Indian TV show. …35 percent of women fear modern contraception methods; after the show, that dropped to 13%; 66 percent of women surveyed say it’s legitimate for husbands to beat them. After show was aired, the figure dropped to 44% (30,000 households were surveyed).”

- “A Michigan lawmaker and professor are crafting a bill that would ban police officers from having sex with prostitutes during investigations, Michigan Radio reported. The report, which was published on Monday, said that Michigan appears to be the only state that grants immunity to police officers.”

- “The lawsuit from the studios focuses on VidAngel’s unconventional blend of proprietary technology and, strangely enough, support of an increasingly outdated medium. VidAngel editors decrypted DVDs of Hollywood films, cut them up into little pieces, and then tagged the various offensive elements, including coarse language and nudity, so that concerned customers could skip over them.”

- “It started off as nothing more than a small fishing village on the Gulf of Thailand. …After almost half a century, Pattaya has transformed itself from a getaway destination for international soldiers during the Vietnam War to Thailand’s best-known red light district among sex tourists from every corner of the world.”

- “If you’ve ever Googled “the history of the blow job,” you’ve no doubt encountered a slew of things, including perhaps a visit from HR. But depending on how willing you are to go down on your list of search results, there’s a juicy bit of oral history you may not have uncovered: the role that the mob played in popularizing the act, or perhaps we should say repopularizing it.”
