• Most outlets reporting on this are failing to note that the respondents were culled from social media and were specifically chosen as ‘participants’ in revenge porn. As in, perpetrators. One extremely irresponsible and misleading article on Vice presents this as a representation of people in general. That’s not true. In addition — “… Only those that marked “strongly disagree” were counted as people opposed to revenge porn. Those who marked “disagree” or “no opinion” were counted as people who showed “at least some approval.” Zhana Vrangalova, professor of human sexuality at New York University told Gizmodo, “This is bad science, with possibly some odd personal agenda guiding these interpretations.”
