Oprah reloaded, Apple’s iPad, meeting tech rockstars, the Violet Blue chocolate bar

Violet Blue on Oprah by Laughing Squid/Scott Beale

* This week I’m on The Oprah Winfrey Show (again!) talking about women and our changing relationship with porn; I’m delighted to say you can watch the re-aired show this Thursday, March 25. It’s a truly fantastic interview, and I can tell you that Oprah — the woman — is the at the center of the best talkshow experience I’ve had yet.

* I was interviewed this week on ZDNet about sexual/erotic/educational content, the Kindle, Apple’s iPad and the new strict morality they’re enforcing on retailers and developers for their store. It’s a great podcast and covers Apple’s relationship with its fans, what and who stand to lose with the guidelines Amazon will be squeezed into, and I think you’ll be surprised.

* For SXSW in Austin, Texas last week high-quality chocolatier Chocri asked me to design a Violet Blue chocolate bar and it was a huge hit! The bar includes coffee, almonds and aphrodisiac properties; they just went on sale and you can buy them here. All sales give proceeds to charity, and if you don’t like my recipe, Chocri has pioneered the DIY, make your own chocolate bar — fantastic!

* My presentation at SXSW was a Miss Manners for the social media generation, networkers and geeks — you can read about How Not To Be A D-bag at SXSW on Ed Hunsinger’s blog (he ran the panel). In it, I also explained how to meet people you want to connect with, how to do it in a way that will make people like you. It worked for Barry J. Moltz who summed it up in 3 Ways to Meet Social Media Rock Stars Like Violet Blue.

* NPR recently interviewed me about the history of the internet and its relationship with sexual content. It came out great and I really enjoyed being on All Things Considered. Read more about it on the Examiner.

* I’m a celebrity judge in Alltop and Strutta’s Over The Top Photo Contest for SXSW — if you attended the festival, please send your photos in, and win a chance to get a free iPad. Which you won’t be able to watch my Unofficial Apple Weblog interview on, but you can still listen to the ZDNet podcast!

  1. Just listened to your interview with Jason Perlow. Overall, I thought the interview was well-done. As a Mac-minded computer user, I agree on several points. Apple needs to bring the content controls of the App store inline with the music store. An explicit tag on apps would provide the parental filter that should keep parents happy. This would also allow Apple’s review team to focus on what it should – private API abuses and malware.

I would like to add just one note though regarding adult ebook content and the iPad. If Amazon’s current model holds out, there shouldn’t be a problem. As it stands now, I can download and read you titles on my iPhone. The way that Amazon skirts the Apple review process is by having the Kindle iPhone app send shoppers to the Kindle mobile web pages for browsing and purchasing books. If Amazon is smart, they will keep this model for the iPad.

I’m, however, concerned that the iBooks app for the iPad will have a narrow spectrum of books. And this will be done in order to show the developers that even Apple abides by their own murky rules.

btw – love to hear your voice. You really are the sexy geek-girl of all media.
