Read the Examiner’s article on blogging — the first line. Tell them how *fucking* stupid they are, please.
Here’s the form to tell “a friend” — they did it there again.
Update: I just sent an email to editor@examiner.com and contactus@examiner.com that says “I am not a porn star. I am a sex educator. This is clearly stated on the top of my blog. I demand an apology and a correction.
Violet Blue”
I would have caught this sooner (it’s 13 hours old) except I was at the Chronicle and having lunch with my editor there, after an epic traffic weekend on my column. They seem to know who I am.
It gets weirder [update]: Okay, so check *this* out — I’m looking for contact info for the article’s author, Dan Gainor, and I think I found him at “News Busters: Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias“. Is this the same douchebag?
Update: Yaaaayyy! They fixed it — though no apology or acknowledgement. The Examiner still sucks far more than before. It’s the Baltimore Ex, but is the chain that runs our local SF Ex, so it’s no mystery why we’re a one-paper town. They fixed it because we *wrote them* and demanded it. Thank you!!!! I had no idea the author of the article had spent the last 2 years bashing liberal bloggers on his own blog, wow. Three good emails are after the jump. Remind me to re-read them next time I’m depressed…

Subject: ranting & raving for the whole world to see – examiner.com
You fecking idiots. The Violet Blue who blogs and has a huge cult following online IS NOT THE SAME “Violet Blue” who years later copied the original’s name and started doing porn. Perhaps your fact checkers should, ahem, check facts before going to press…
http://www.examiner.com/a-381542~ranting___raving_for_the_whole_world_to_see.html
Maybe if the author spent less time liberal-bashing on his own blog (http://newsbusters.org/blog/42) he’d have time to check facts. Unless, of course, his intention all along was to bash liberal blogging, which he’s been doing for two years now himself… Hmm, you’d think another active blogger would be familiar enough with some of the big names in blogging like Violet to catch such a gross error… unless you think he… ?
You decide. Sounds like blatant media manipulation with the aid of your publication to me and others already.

Subject: In regards to “Ranting and Raving”
Dear Editor,
The Violet Blue mentioned in the opening line of this article is *not* a
porn star.
If you Google “Violet Blue”, the very first link will take you to the
popular weblog of Violet Blue, the writer, who states in the first
paragraph, “I am not a porn performer.”
As a groundbreaking, intelligent, award-winning writer, I’m sure she’s
enormously offended to be mistaken for the racist, ignorant porn actress
who started using her name well after the original Violet Blue
established herself as a writer.
Sincerely,
KA
Subject: Huge error
In you article “Ranting & raving for the whole world to see” by Dan
Gainor on Nov 6, 2006. You failed to get the facts right starting in the
very first sentence:
“Porn star Violet Blue does it — a lot.”
Violet Blue the blogger/writer/educator is not a porn star. There is a
performer who users the writers name but she has as far as I know never
blogged or in any way published in her life. Violet the author is very
well respected in blogging, sex writing, and many other communities. The
fact that your author and editors could not manage to tell the two apart
shows that you did not even take time to google for the name. This is
exceedingly bad reporting that you should be ashamed of. You have
tarnished the image of a activist who is effecting a positive change in
the world through your careless association of her with a person who has
shown little thought for anything in the world but herself.
Thank you for your time.
