Glamazons : Carlos Batts and April Flores pull off a “Radiohead of porn”

Order direct from the filmmaker and star here.

Carlos Batts and April Flores (aka Fatty D) are not only friends and I think they’re incredible people and tireless artists — and they’re more than a bit subversive, in case you haven’t already noticed by the type of porn and art they make. Voluptuous Biker Babes (via a mainstream porn studio) looks unlike typical mainstream porn and then some, complete with Russ Meyer locations and references galore. But they’ve also been up to something I think heralds the new era of, well, the democratization of porn creation and distribution. By, and including people of varying races, sizes, genders and ideas about sex.

This weekend Carlos emailed to tell me about Glamazons, his new film with April — and set with indie local (SF) music, they’re making it and distributing it in what they’re calling “Radiohead of adult” style, breaking with traditional distribution chains and you can buy it directly from the filmmaker and performer. I haven’t seen it, but thanks to Carlos I have a huge gallery of stills from the making of after the jump.

All of your dollars go to the artists; buy Glamazons from the sidebar on April’s site here.

Don’t forget to say hi on her blog — and looks like she was skipping around happily with Ashley Blue (who stars in the previous post’s Sugar Town) on election night.

Click here to download the film’s feature song, Milkshake Thick (MP3) by recording artist The One from local (San Francisco) OM Records — speaking of OM Records, shout out to my friend of 10+ years, J-Boogie!

See the very explicit gallery after the jump.

  1. Yay. I’m excited to hear even more about former New Mexican Carlos Batts, April Flores and friends. We at Self Serve are very excited to see Kiss Attack on the big screen this weekend at Pornotopia film festival in Albuquerque.

Thanks for being a part of it Carlos, and thanks Violet for having such great taste…
    xoxo

  2. Also,

Check out Humbolt Merchant Service and US ePay. Low set up fees (which they waved when we asked them to) low transaction fees, and easy integration with Zen Cart. But best of all, no arguing with them about whether what you made is a pseudo artist adult film, gonzo porn, or a triptcyh of an authentic sexual reality. They don’t care, and they won’t try to steal your money!

    HTH!

  3. Carlos/April! Watch yourself with that PayPal account. They tried to use their TOS to steal ~$1500 from us and we had to threaten to sic (pre-disgraced) Eliot Spitzer on their sorry asses to get it back. Make sure you sweep your sales out of the account EVERY DAY!

  4. Glamazons stars April Flores, who according to Bizarre Magazine is “The worlds biggest sex star.

Glamazons is the 3rd act in the documentary series directed by Carlos Batts. The series was initiated by the art film Alter Ego, internationally received followed Voluptuous Life.

Glamzons is the digital evolution of a model to a muse now Sex Star. If Paul Rubens or Egon Schiele had a camera they would be on April face book page, setting up a photo session with her. April is part of the lineage of woman that have inspired the masters through out the history of art.

This is a video project that completes the triptych of an authentic sexual reality.

April and I first thought of this as an extension of the photography we’d created the first 4 years of our relationship. We shot so much, all the time; we just needed another medium to help document the speed at which we recorded our lives. After making Alter Ego we were hesitant about doing another video project because we were not trying to make a pseudo artist adult film, or gonzo porn. We just wanted to try to document our lives for artistic reasons. The video camera became a natural extension of the art.

Glamazons is April Flores at her most sensation a voluptuous delicious woman who inspired creative energy and provokes the possibility that the video camera is the new paint brush.

April Flores the 21st century MUSE invites us inside her seamless exotic photo sessions; Downtown Exhibitionism and Solitary Fun where sexy is the new fetish. Starring: April Flores, Ruby Violence, Jerry…guest appearances by Alix Lakerhurst, Blue and her Pole Dancing Friends, Quin, Honey & Jersey.

Glamazons is a signed limited edition DVD. Only 1000 DVD’s will be made it will include an exclusive photo gallery and special bonus feature you’ll discover on your own. It will sell for $25, shipping $10, shipping $15 international orders. Will taken directly fattyd.com

  5. MR’s comment gets to the heart of my concern with the whole free digital content ‘ting. Free music downloads might work for Radiohead and other live performers. But what about us poor schmuck who make things that only “live” in a recorded format?

While I recognized that times adn technologies change, and I don’t feel that I have any special entitlement to make money the way I do, I rather like being a filmmaker and being able to sell my films — not just give them away to get people hyped to come to my concerts — is how I am able to do what I do.

Big producers will always be able to muster resource of spectacle, so I’m guessing their safe from teh digital apocolypse. Likewise, the talented amateurs, unburdened be need to make a living have unpresentented opportunities to have their voices heard, which I pretty amazing. As long as their are cheap digital cameras and YouTube, there are going to be a lot of really entertaining 5 minute movies! But what about the middle. In the long run are things getting easier or harder for Mr. Batts, myself, or others?
