Great news: I’ve been doing Kink Your Kindle sex book roundups for so long, and the collection of posts is so long, that I’ve added a dedicated page! Now, click on the top tab (above!) Kink Your Kindle page to access sex book lists anytime, or send your friends the link when they’re looking for book shopping inspiration!
It’s summertime, so it’s time for a new roundup of the season’s best sex books. With the exception of the nonfiction titles, every selection in this post contains explicit sex, ranging from romantic trysts with hardcore sex to character-driven, thoughtful — but very nasty — porn. Expect unusual and rich stories, characters with complexity, riveting realistic sex, and skilled storytelling.
NONFICTION
- Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Hetrosexuality ($14.47) by Hanne Blank
“It’s surprising that the term “heterosexuality” is less than 150 years old and that heterosexuality’s history has never before been written, given how obsessed we are with it. In Straight, independent scholar Hanne Blank delves deep into the contemporary psyche as well as the historical record to chronicle the realm of heterosexual relations–a subject that is anything but straight and narrow. Consider how Catholic monasticism, the reading of novels, the abolition of slavery, leisure time, divorce, and constipation of the bowels have all at some time been labeled enemies of the heterosexual state.”
- The Ultimate Guide to Sexual Fantasy ($9.99) by Violet Blue (me!), introduction by Carol Queen
This book is getting such great reviews — and I’m ecstatic! “The Ultimate Guide to Sexual Fantasy helps readers learn their lover’s secret fantasies; engage in hot, dramatic role-play without feeling silly; have a threesome-without jealousy; explore sex parties and swinging; have sex in public; create thrilling S&M scenarios; make their own porn and erotic photos; and strip, give lap dances, and talk dirty. Also included are comprehensive lists of the most popular fantasies and fetishes complete with suggestions for props, toys, and costumes (and where to buy them), racy sex games for lovers, expert help for deciding just how far to take your fantasies, and hot new stories by best-selling erotica author Alison Tyler.”
- Real Science of Sex Appeal: Why We Love, Lust, and Long for Each Other ($4.49) by How Stuff Works
While the physical version of this book won’t be out until next year, the Kindle edition is available. Discovery’s How Stuff Works put together this fun little science trivia book about attraction and sex, and it makes for a great, light read that’s perfect for traveling.
- Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East ($9.99) by Benjamin Law
“Benjamin Law takes his investigative duties seriously, going nude where required in Balinese sex resorts, sitting backstage for hours with Thai ladyboy beauty contestants, and trying Indian yoga classes designed to cure his homosexuality. The characters he meets — from Tokyo’s celebrity drag queens to HIV-positive Burmese sex workers and Malaysian ex-gay Christian fundamentalists to Chinese gays and lesbians who marry each other to please their parents — all teach him something new about being queer in Asia.”
- The Invisible Orientation: An Introduction to Asexuality (Kindle price n/a) by Julie Sondra Decker
This book isn’t out until September and the Kindle page isn’t yet live — but if you are asexual, or know anyone who identifies as asexual, I’ve had a chance to read the manuscript and this book is nothing short of a breakthrough. Highly recommended.
FICTION
- A Princess Bound: Naughty Fairy Tales for Women ($9.99) by Kristina Wright
There are some incredible stories in this; I’ve selected one of them for Best Women’s Erotica 2015. “In this new anthology of erotic romance fairy tales from the editor of the best-selling Fairy Tale Lust and Lustfully Ever After, the fairy tales are naughtier and have a BDSM twist. Retellings of the classics are joined with clever original tales, making for a darkly sensual and intensely romantic collection.”
- Uncover Me ($3.79) by AM Hartnett
“The photos are becoming a compulsion for Carrie. As soon as she wakes up, she feels the need to engage with the readers of her erotic website, Dirty Pictures. No matter how hard she tries to focus on her real life the need is always there. The high is knowing that men desire her. One day a comment on her erotic website makes Carrie go cold: one of her readers, Brendan, has recognised a landmark in the window of one of her pictures. Brendan knows where to find her and has sent a tantalising private message.”
- Written On Skin: An Anthology of the Erotics of Body Modification ($4.61) by Remittance Girl
“Written on Skin invites readers into the sensory, emotional and psychological landscape of body modification. All body modification is about possession: an act of claiming oneself, or memorializing events or people on skin, or the giving over of power to another. The metaphorical penetration of the body, acknowledged or not, is yet another erotic and often ecstatic element. Some of the tales are sweet and romantic, while others skate the edge of erotic horror. There are no limits here: all genders, all sexual orientations.”
- Can’t Get Enough: Erotica for Women ($9.99) by Tenille Brown
“Picking up where Gotta Have It left off, Can’t Get Enough captures the passion and intensity of quickies and nooners: those delicious times when the urge to merge takes over.”
- The Big Book of Submission: 69 Kinky Tales ($9.99) by Rachel Kramer Bussel
This stellar, explicit collection releases July 21, and is available for pre-order now. Check out the book’s blog for more info and other goodies. “Submission takes many forms in this collection of 69 short stories, from straining in bondage to taking a spanking, being put on display, and beyond.”
- Rubbernecking and Gym Rat ($0.99 each) by Alison Tyler
Don’t miss: Tyler’s next (superb) hot collection Bound for Trouble: BDSM Erotica For Women ($9.99) comes out July 21st, and is available for pre-order now. “Alison Tyler, with “Rubbernecking,” shows off her talents as a writer by teasing the reader with a rubberotic display of discovery and exhibitionism. “Rubbernecking” is one of those cheeky stories that keeps the reader smiling until the last sentence. Gym Rat combines BDSM, a stern husband, a submissive wife, and an eager trainer with explosive results.”
- Slow Surrender ($3.99) by Cecila Tan
Slow Surrender won the RT Award for Erotic Romance and is simultaneously a subversion of the tropes in 50 Shades of Grey (read a funny review by Alexis Hall here). “4 1/2 stars! This is the BDSM novel all the other millionaire Dom heroes want to star in. Tan takes an overused trope and turns it into a dreamy, erotic fantasy that draws the reader down the rabbit hole along with Karina. The sex scenes are lush and erotic without attempting to outdo the last BDSM novel out there, and James’ struggle to trust Karina enough to give up even an iota of his rigid control is palpable. Readers will be clamoring for the next book in the series.”
- Her Wish is Your Command: Twenty-One Erotic Fem Dom Stories ($9.99) by D.L. King
“Her Wish is Your Command: Twenty-One Erotic Fem Dom Stories by erotica maven DL King will take you on a tour of the the realm of Female Domination and the men who love powerful women. You’ll meet real goddesses come to life, swinger FemDom couples (and even one very erotic Hanukkah tale involving wax), and men who love to paint toenails. Every story in this unforgettable collection will leave you breathless and wanting more.”
- Out of the Frying Pan ($6.99) by Sophie Mouette
“Take one chef displaced in the wacky world of Hollywood, add one hunky pool boy who isn’t who he seems, mix with a heavy dash of spicy sex. Then fold in a self-absorbed starlet who’s on a different diet every night, blend with her action-hero boyfriend (secret ingredient: closet cross-dresser). Finally, garnish with a passel of crazy relatives, one lovestruck Welsh corgi, and two peacocks who just want to be left alone.” - Kink Your Kindle: Free Fetish Sex, Bisexual Boyfriends, Twisted Bondage
- Kink Your Kindle: Group sex, erotic dystopian sci-fi, Bitcoin smut, kinky romance
- Kink Your Kindle: Jewel thieves, body swaps, filthy bisexuals and unsatisfied sex slaves
- Kink Your Kindle: Criminals, bisexuals and kinky new erotic fiction
Special thanks to Cecilia Tan, who told me that Laura Antoniou’s Marketplace Series ($7.99 each) is now finally in ebook form — all five volumes. Tan notes, “A sixth, The Inheritor, is coming soon, too, but not for another 6-8 months.”
