How I love the Wet Spots…

Of course I mean the band. What were you thinking, that this blog was back to all sex? Damn right it is — and there’s more where that came from my sweets, and it gets hotter from here on out. I have plans to deconstruct the sex in that Obama pic, too. Okay so actually this week’s column Please Do Sleep In The Wet Spots is a) my total fangirling naughty, bawdy sex-positive duo The Wet Spots; b) getting a chance to profile a truly talented retro act that would make John Waters proud; and c) blatantly using my MSM access to send emails to famous people I admire. Right now I’m home in bed with my kitty Alex (aka CTO of the Blogger Bungalow), finally off the various planes and connections it took to get home, lining up my bazillion posts about sex and tech (and mostly sex) for tomorrow and friday… and I’m plotting world domination with a kissable fembot army, as usual. Here’s a snip from my (!) interview with The Wet Spots, snip:

The Wet Spots (Cass King and John Woods) are more than a musical sex comedy duo: With their cultlike following spanning all genders and orientations, they’re more like a sex-positive old-fashioned husband and wife song and dance team — Ricky and Lucy, if Lucy wore a strap-on and both grew up watching John Waters films. They croon and sing swingin’ ditties about threesomes, sex toys and taking it in the ass. Their sassy retro song about male anal penetration (within a heterosexual context) has been a YouTube video phenom: “Do You Take It?” has been viewed over 3 million times.

Their shows, which include sing-alongs, spankings and bawdy sex-ed, are legendary. Whenever they come (ahem) through town, they play small community venues, put on a hell of an entertaining act and pack the house. The FCC will never allow their music on the airwaves, nor their performances at halftime, but the Wet Spots certainly sing (and appeal strongly to) a broad, fun-loving, sex-positive generation that spans the globe.

I caught up with them as they were preparing to literally swing dance though San Francisco on a world tour, and got lucky with the Wet Spots.

Violet Blue: What really made you want to take retro sophistication, a playful humor, honed musical and entertainment skill, and truly naughty topics and put it in a blender?

Cass King: We’re interested in reclaiming the original meaning of adult entertainment. We love the wit of Cole Porter and Noel Coward, and we wanted to apply that sensibility to our “distinctly modern” morality. We were inspired by the old innuendo songs of the jazz age, and the risque R&B of the ’50s, and we write from the perspective of two bisexual, polyamorous, kinky Canadians.

John Woods: We reject any “dirty nasty filthy” labels (unless we’re screaming them out at the moment of climax). If you reject the notion that sex is taboo, then these are just witty little love songs.

VB: How did you two meet?

John: At an experimental music/poetry open mic night. (Jealous?) Cass was reading her lesbian love poetry. I was playing an electrified sitar to accompany her. We made a date to “collaborate on some creative projects” and wound up having sex for about eight months solid instead. (…read more!)

  1. Just listening to the Wet Spots last night, forcing a friend to listen along. In spite of his reticence, I (they) got him grinnin’ :}.

I picture Cass and John, when they come up with the right lyrics, and string them into the most perfect, bawdy verses, just sit there and LAUGH their asses off! I know I would.

I had the absolute delight of having Cass sit on my lap during “Threeway Rendezvous”. Figures I had the biggest zit of my adulthood where she caressed my chin. Damn!

    Just love those two….

PS New to your blog, looking forward to eating it up with relish (the excitement kind!)
