Last night was a doozie: I landed late at JFK, grabbed a taxi into the city and got to my friend’s apartment — only to be locked out after midnight, sitting in the hall after hauling my bags up five flights of stairs. I’d made plans to meet friends, and after 20 minutes of painful playing with the locks, I finally got ahold of my friends who own the apartment, and it turns out they didn’t have a key to the bottom lock and were very confused that it was even lock-able. Within an hour the building’s super showed up, for us only to discover he didn’t have a key either… We began to break the lock. He pried, I kicked. Then, a crowbar. For some reason my stress started to ease up when sexy geek Dino Dai Zovi dropped by and when we stepped outside, the super popped the lock — phew! I changed, and we booked across town to the welcoming arms of Lori, Scott, Tantek and a much-needed beer by 2:15 am or so — Scott is busy with his pocket camera and caught this cute candid, plus a lot more.
I crashed at 4:30, with mosquito bites to boot: it’s in the 70s here in NYC, clear, gorgeous and beautiful as can be. I came here to get some work done and that’s what I’m doing in the apartment this afternoon — in between enjoying the incredible cafes and delis in Hell’s Kitchen and beautiful view from the rooftop. I told Dino I was here to work and he laughed at me. “Yeah right! The problem you’ll have is that there’s *too* much stuff to do in New York.” He might be right. He certainly is brilliant, especially about all things security.
I already know I’m going to miss an art show in Brooklyn I really, REALLY want to see, Takashi Murakami, and while I’m planning on going to the Laughing Squid NYC drinkup tonight, I may also end up missing my friend Porno Jim‘s show at 11 tonight — I *really* also want to see (and might make it to) the current MOMA show Design and the Elastic Mind which looks really exciting.
Now, work, blogging, a bit more work… then play. As usual, visual updates continuously here; later brings livestreaming here.
Welcome! Glad you’re here. Enjoy!
I love the one of you on the rooftop.
I wandered through Hell’s Kitchen once when I was lost. Browsed the Flea Market. Have to check it out next time I’m in New York. May be going in a couple months but we’ll just have to see what happens.
Wanna try to make it out to San Fran too.
