- “Have you ever seen an IUD before? It’s a lot like an IED—frightening, complicated, and sort of jury-rigged looking… You can even sort the sperm blockade by fun categories, like “party ready” (easy enough to use while blacked out!), “easy to hide” (for those with tight pants and/or draconian parents), and Gizmodo favorite, “do me now.”” Congrats to SFSI partner Bedsider for The Most Beautiful Birth Control Chart in the World (Gizmodo)
- Caryn Talty, a mommyblogger at HealthyFamily.org noted that while the Kindle Fire was a “very cool, sleek electronic toy,” it “has no parental monitoring safeguards installed on the device or available through a software download.” Talty observed that “anyone handling the device can buy whatever material they wish (electronic downloads and merchandise shipped to your door),” thanks to the way the Fire is linked to the buyer’s Amazon account. - I see a conspicuous and distinct lack of LA Times coverage on this turn of events in the anti-porn crusade on condoms in porn… The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office has filed a lawsuit to keep the June 2012 ballot free of a measure that would require porn actors to wear condoms during film shoots. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, city attorneys say the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s proposed measure is unnecessary and will waste taxpayer money. The filing urges the court to take immediate action rather than wait until after the election to invalidate the measure by finding it “patently illegal” because that “would undermine the public trust.” LA moves to block vote to mandate condoms in porn (AP)

Matt – sorry about that incomplete summary – the back story is complicated. The org pushing for condom mandates is an anti-porn organization. AIDS Healthcare actively works on this with anti-porn crusaders like Shelly Lubben and Pink Cross, who lobby politicians to make porn illegal and have a very vocal Christian agenda.

Why is the push for mandatory condoms in porn deemed “anti-porn?” I’m seeing a wide variety of opinions on the subject, among people who are generally pro-porn.
What sometimes baffles me about the “controversy” of teaching contraception and such in school is that when I was in high school (Southeastern Pennsylvania, just north of Philly), there was a display permanantly attached to the wall in the health education room that had examples of all the then-available contraception. Sex was taught matter of factly and with an emphasis on what the consequences might be and how to avoid them. It neither glorified nor vilified sex, sex just WAS.
And from what I can see now, I seemingly had a radical education! And yet, maybe one or two girls when I was in high school got pregnant, and noone had STDs, and I know full when The Sex was happening. What has happened to the world that we have gone so dramatically /backwards/ on such things? The mind boggles.
