Tonight Kink’s culture blog Kinky published Porn Vets Teach ‘Porn 101′ to Aspiring Stars; a post about working in porn, namely, what a performer needs to know about everything from payment to safety and much more. In the post is the above Porn 101 video, which right now has seven views because their original post didn’t have a shareable version, and I asked them to make it embeddable. Thank you Kink! The video is from the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) “an advocacy group made up of porn stars [who] put together Porn 101, a video primer on what every aspiring star should know. (…)” From the post:
The advice in the 15 minute video covers a wide range of topics and offers up some sage bits of advice, including:
- Bring your own brand of lube or condoms to set, if you have preferences
- Don’t brush teeth before scenes, as it can cause mini-abrasions. (Use mints or mouthwash instead)
- Don’t come to set with a cold, even if it’s not an STI.
- Your mom is going to recognize you in the photos, even if you use a clever name like James Deen.
Our favorite bit of advice? That your butthole qualifies as genitals. You wouldn’t think this needs saying, but then again you might also think someone would know to stay home from the orgy when they have the flu.
The video features several of our favorite stars, such as Asa Akira, Jessica Drake, Kylie Ireland, Danny Wylde, Bonnie Rotten, Kelly Shibari, Dani Daniels, Stoya, James Deen (and over a dozen more) and is a truly excellent collection of accurate information about what it’s really like to work in porn – a great set of facts to show to anyone who tries to tell you porn stars are drugged, unwilling, unintelligent, uneducated, desperate, or other myths used to perpetuate shame, judgment and disdain about the people who work having sex in front of the camera.
It’s awesome to see yet another way the internet is part of the new dialogue we’re having about porn – a far more honest conversation that’s been had in porn’s history, to date.
